A person has died after being hit by a train at Coulsdon South station.

Yesterday (January 2) officers from British Transport Police were called to Coulsdon South railway station to reports of a person on the track.

Paramedics were also called, and the person died at the scene.

British Transport Police has confirmed that the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

Lines via Redhill were blocked whilst emergency services attended the scene.

A statement from Southern on X read: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between Gatwick Airport and Purley.

“All lines (via Redhill) are blocked between these stations whilst the emergency services work to deal with this incident.”

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to Coulsdon South railway station just before 12pm yesterday (2 January) to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
