A man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving as a woman fights for her life in hospital following a crash in Wandsworth.

Emergency services were called to Garratt Lane at around 1.30am this morning (Wednesday, January 3).

At the scene, police have said a motorcycle and a Honda Civic were involved in a crash.

A woman, aged in her 30s, who was a pillion passenger on the motorcycle was seriously injured.

She was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

The rider of the motorcycle, a male in his 40s, was also taken to hospital.

His condition is currently unknown.

The 22-year-old driver of the Honda Civic was arrested on suspicion of drug driving causing serious injury.

He was taken to a west London police station where he remains.

Road closures and cordons are in place.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called at 01:30hrs on Wednesday, 3 January to reports of a collision at Garratt Lane.

“Officers and London Ambulance Service attended.

“At the scene a motorcycle had been in collision with a Honda Civic.

“A woman, aged 30s, who was a pillion passenger on the motorcycle was seriously injured.

“She was treated at the scene by medics before being taken to a west London hospital where her condition is critical.

“The male rider of the motorcycle, aged 40s, was also taken to hospital.

“We await an update on his condition.

“The 22-year-old driver of the Honda Civic was arrested on suspicion of drug driving causing serious injury.

“He was taken to a west London police station where he remains.

“Road closures and cordons remain in place.
