A Wallington café has redeemed its zero-star food hygiene rating after being awarded a top score of five following a council reinspection.
Cuppa' Chaii, at 1–2 Ross Parade in Wallington, was given an anticipated food hygiene rating of 0 following an inspection on June 18.
But the business has now received a 5 out of 5 food hygiene rating, described as “Very Good”, following a re-rate inspection by Sutton Council.
The reinspection took place yesterday (August 25), after it was requested by the food business operator.

Sutton Council confirmed the improved rating to the Your Local Guardian.
A council spokesperson said: “The premises has been revisited to assess compliance with legal requirements in accordance with our procedures.
“The Food Business Operator requested a re-rate inspection, which occurred on Tuesday, 25 August, resulting in an improved FHRS score of 5 (Very Good).”
The latest inspection means Cuppa' Chaii has gone from the bottom rating in the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme to the highest possible score in just over two months.
The café previously featured in our list of Sutton's worst-rated food businesses after its June inspection.
That inspection was recorded as “unsatisfactory” and identified a number of food hygiene, cleanliness and management concerns, including issues with cleaning, food storage and refrigeration.
The June report recorded temperatures of 17.5C in one fridge and 22.4C in a display fridge, while an Italian panini was probed at 14.5C.
Inspectors also raised concerns including flies in the kitchen, a lack of soap at a hand-wash basin and undated opened or homemade food.
The report said the business needed to take action to address the issues identified.
Following the inspection, Cuppa' Chaii requested a re-rate inspection from Sutton Council.
That inspection resulted in the café receiving a 5 out of 5 rating.
The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme runs from 0, meaning “Urgent improvement necessary”, to 5, meaning “Very good”.
The scheme is run by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) in partnership with local authorities.
It gives consumers information about the hygiene standards of businesses where food is prepared, sold or served, based on inspections carried out by local authority food safety officers.
The FSA is a UK government department responsible for protecting public health in relation to food.
It provides guidance and advice on food safety and works with local authorities to help ensure food businesses meet hygiene and safety requirements.
Food hygiene ratings are based on factors including how hygienically food is handled, the condition of the premises and equipment, and how effectively food safety is managed.
