A 19-year-old pedestrian has died after a late-night crash in Guildford.

Surrey Police was called to the A3 at the Guildford and Godalming Bypass shortly before 11.15 pm on Friday (July 17) following reports of a crash close to the junction of Wilderness Road involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, who was a 19-year-old man, died at the scene.

His family has been informed.

A 31-year-old man from Aylesbury has now been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

He remains in police custody.

A white DAF tanker has also been located and seized by police as part of Surrey Police’s enquiries.

The investigation is ongoing and officers are looking to trace a large white van as the force believes it could have been a witness vehicle to the crash.

Witnesses have been urged to get in touch with Surrey Police.
