A Sutton thief who stole luxury cars from homes while residents slept has been jailed for nearly three years.

Liam Carroll, from Wallington, targeted properties across Surrey and south London between July 2024 and October 2025, taking vehicles valued at more than £171,500.

The first burglary took place in Fetcham in July 2024, where Carroll entered a property and stole the keys to a Mercedes GLB worth more than £30,000.

The car was later found in Ashtead, where forensic officers identified Carroll’s fingerprint inside the home, linking him directly to the burglary.

In September 2024, Carroll broke into a home in Tadworth and stole a grey BMW 520D, along with two wallets containing bank cards and driving licences.

A search of his mobile phone revealed videos of Carroll driving the stolen BMW and filming a red BMW, which had also been stolen from an address in Ewell.

Both vehicles were recovered and valued at a combined total of £23,000.

One of the victim’s driving licences was found discarded in bushes outside Carroll’s home.

Further enquiries revealed that a BMW 320D, stolen from Purley the following day, had also been taken by Carroll.

Video evidence showed him posing with the unrecovered vehicle alongside an associate.

Carroll later broke into a property in Sutton by snapping a door lock and stole the keys to a Porsche 911 worth more than £65,000.

Investigators found the broken door lock at Carroll’s home during a search, linking him to the offence.

While on conditional bail the following year, Carroll entered a home in Cheam through unlocked rear doors while the resident slept and stole the keys to a BMW i5 Touring M Sport worth more than £23,000.

CCTV footage showed Carroll leaving the property in the stolen vehicle.

The car was later recovered in Russell Hill, Purley, thanks to the victim’s tracking system.

PC Joe Brown, the investigating officer, said: "Carroll repeatedly targeted people’s homes, stealing vehicles that victims had worked hard to own and leaving them with the lasting impact of having their homes burgled.

"This was a complex investigation involving forensic evidence, CCTV, digital evidence and meticulous investigative work to build a compelling case.

"Every piece of evidence played an important role in demonstrating the full extent of Carroll’s offending.

"We remain committed to pursuing those responsible for acquisitive crime, no matter how determined they are to avoid justice.

"If you choose to steal from our communities, we will work tirelessly to identify you, gather the evidence and bring you before the courts."

Carroll was also ordered to pay £228 in costs.
