Several buildings were destroyed after a fire caused by the sun in Hackbridge.
The London Fire Brigade was called just before 3.45pm today (July 2) after receiving 14 calls reporting a fire on London Road.
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Mitcham, Croydon, and Norbury fire stations attended the scene.
A range of single-storey buildings were destroyed.
The fire was extinguished by 4.50pm.
The fire is believed to have been an accident and caused by refracted sunlight.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "Fires caused by refracted sunlight can happen all year round and can be common.
"Our advice is to make sure that you keep mirrors, crystals, glass ornaments and other reflective items out of direct sunlight at all times."
