A Poundland store in Worcester Park is set to close this month with a final sale underway.

Poundland has officially confirmed that its store on 177 Central Road will close its doors for good on July 10.

A clearance sale has been running for several weeks, with the branch stating that the closure is due to an inability to agree on fresh lease terms needed to keep the store trading.

Over the last few years, several applications have been submitted to Sutton Council to change the use of the store, with McDonald’s being a prominent applicant, though the fast-food chain officially withdrew its plans in February 2025.

Consultation with staff is underway as the store prepares for its official closure next Friday.

A spokesperson for Poundland told Your Local Guardian: "I’m afraid our Worcester Park store at 177 Central Road [KT4 8DR], is set to close on 10 July and there’s been a final sale for some time.

"I’m afraid the simple reason the store is closing is we’ve been unable to secure new lease terms that would allow us to stay open.

"We have over 600 stores across the UK and Ireland, and with a store network of that size, sadly from time to time we’re unable to agree new lease terms, as is the case here in Worcester Park.

"It goes without saying we know how disappointing this will be to our customers and colleagues at the store – work to consult with impacted colleagues is underway.

"We’re sorry to be leaving the store and look forward to welcoming customers at our closest location in Surbiton in future."
