Police have been given extra powers to tackle potential anti-social behaviour linked to large crowds in Epsom this weekend.
The Section 35 order will run through the Derby weekend, from 10am on Friday (June 5) until 6am on Sunday (June 7), covering Epsom, Walton Downs and Langley Vale.
The order gives police officers and PCSOs powers to direct individuals to leave the area if their behaviour is contributing, or likely to contribute, to anti-social behaviour, crime or disorder.
Those given directions can be excluded from the area for up to 48 hours.
Inspector Tommy Pearson, Borough Commander for Epsom and Ewell, said the measure has been introduced to help reduce disruption during the event.
He said: “We’re putting this dispersal order in place to help us to effectively reduce and tackle any anti-social behaviour in the Epsom, Walton Downs, and Langley Vale areas across the two days of the Epsom Derby.
“The safety of those who live, work, and socialise in Epsom is our top priority.
“Officers will be out patrolling the town centre and surrounding areas across the weekend to ensure those attending the Derby enjoy the event, and to keep disruption through anti-social behaviour to a minimum.
“If you have any concerns, please speak to one of our officers.”
A Public Spaces Protection Order is already in force across the borough of Epsom and Ewell until 2028.
It includes restrictions such as banning alcohol in public spaces and prohibiting the use of clothing intended to conceal identity for the purpose of crime or anti-social behaviour.
Police are urging the public to continue reporting incidents via social media direct message or through their website.
In an emergency, people are advised to call 999.
