Sutton has appointed its new Civic Mayor.
Cllr Muhammad Sadiq will serve for the 2026-27 civic year after being formally chosen at Sutton Council’s annual meeting.
He also held the mayoral office in 2015-16 and again in 2019-20.
Cllr Sadiq said: "It is a great honour and privilege to have been elected as Mayor of Sutton having previously served in the role during 2015–2016 and again in 2019–2020.
"To be entrusted with representing the borough and serving its residents is a responsibility I value deeply.
"I remain committed to supporting our diverse communities, celebrating the achievements of local people and organisations, and continuing to work for the benefit of all residents across Sutton."
Cllr Cryss Mennaceur, who represents Sutton Central, was elected as deputy mayor.
Cllr Sadiq, who lives in Sutton with his wife and children, is an entrepreneur with a background in building businesses.
Alongside his career, he has been heavily involved in public service, having first been elected councillor for Wallington South in 2014.
He has since held a range of senior positions in the council, including vice chair of the children, families and education committee, vice chair of the planning committee, chair of the licensing committee, and most recently chair of the Beddington and Wallington local committee from 2022 to 2026.
He has also served as a school governor at a local primary, contributed to the Sutton Housing Partnership board, and chaired the admission appeal panel for Glenthorne High School.
His experience as both chair and vice chair of multiple committees has given him insights into leadership, decision-making, and collaboration with the community.
"Serving as both chair and vice chair across these committees has given him valuable experience in leadership, decision-making and bringing people together to achieve positive outcomes for Sutton."
