A Surrey man who raped, assaulted and psychologically abused two women has been jailed for 24 years after a court heard one victim barricaded herself in a hotel bathroom in fear for her life.
Bradley Hughes, from Woking, subjected the women to controlling behaviour, threats and repeated abuse over several years.
In 2022, Hughes carried out sustained abuse against one woman, controlling and threatening different aspects of her life.
On July 26, 2024, Hughes stayed at a London hotel with another woman before accusing her of being involved with other men.
The court heard he threatened to kill her, her friends and former partners before repeatedly kicking the hotel room door, causing damage.
Fearing for her safety, the woman barricaded herself inside the bathroom and contacted hotel security for help.
Following the incident, Hughes repeatedly turned up uninvited at the woman’s home and subjected her to abusive calls and messages.
One victim later told the court: “No one should be in fear of their life or the lives of others.
“And whilst this part ends today, I’ll unfortunately always be left with what you did to me.
“Those scars run deep but after today you will never look at me again.
“So, hear me and know that what you did to me doesn’t define me. My strength does.”
Hughes, 35, was found guilty following a three-week trial at Guildford Crown Court.
He was sentenced to 24 years in prison with an additional eight years on extended licence.
The convictions included three counts of rape, one count of coercive and controlling behaviour, one count of stalking and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Whibley said: “This was a deeply distressing case involving two victims who showed considerable strength and courage in coming forward and supporting this investigation.
“Violence of this nature has a lasting impact.
“I hope this outcome demonstrates that offences of this nature will be thoroughly investigated and offenders will be brought to justice.”
