Croydon residents have shared mixed reactions after Flying Tiger Copenhagen appeared to close its store at the Whitgift Centre.
The Danish retailer has been marked as permanently closed on Google, with a “goodbye Croydon” sign spotted at the shop, although no official statement has yet been issued.
Many shoppers said they were disappointed to see the store go, with some describing it as one of the more unique retailers left in the centre.
Ellie Elle said: “This has to be the saddest closure.
“I think I single-handedly supported them in unnecessary but satisfying purchases.”
Others echoed the sense of loss, with some saying the centre is steadily losing what made it appealing.
Paul Smith wrote: “Won’t be anything left in Whitgift soon.”
Simon Weldon added: “Would the last person to leave turn out the lights.”
Some residents, however, said they were not surprised by the closure, with several claiming they no longer visit Croydon town centre.
Emma Fiddimore wrote: “Wouldn’t step foot in Croydon nowadays.”
Barbara Dixon added: “Why bother.”
Others said the store itself had limited impact on them, with a few admitting they were unaware it was there.
Jamie Lee commented: “I had no idea that store was even in Croydon lol.”
Greg Rawlins added: “Never heard of them.”
Independent business owner Eva Nicolaou said it remains a struggle for traders still operating in the centre.
She wrote: “I’ve got one of the few last remaining independent shops still there, it’s a struggle with no promise of anything happening anytime soon.”
Others used the closure to highlight ongoing uncertainty around the future of the Whitgift Centre and long-delayed redevelopment plans.
Beverly Ashman asked: “Does anyone really think Westfield are going to build a massive shopping mall here or is this going to be a housing development?”
Flying Tiger Copenhagen has not yet confirmed the closure.
