Applegarth Academy has spoken of its pride after government performance data ranked it as one of the highest achieving primary schools in Croydon.
The figures, released by the Department for Education, outline schools’ Key Stage 2 results for the 2024 to 2025 academic year.
The rankings are based on the percentage of pupils meeting the expected standard in reading, writing and maths at the end of Year 6.
According to the data, 88 per cent of pupils at Applegarth Academy, located on Bygrove in New Addington, achieved the expected standard.
Nationally, 62 per cent of Year 6 pupils met the benchmark.
The academy, which is part of the STEP Academy Trust, said the results reflect its commitment to high standards and inclusive education.
It said it has developed a culture where children are empowered with strategies to promote individual success, supported by its curriculum drivers of collaboration, communication and standing out from the crowd.
The results follow further success for the school after it reached the semi-finals of the STEP Academy Trust Debate Championship.
The annual competition involves all 19 academies in the trust, with the final set to be held at the Royal Bank of Canada.
Applegarth Academy is a two-form entry school for pupils aged three to 11.
It said inclusion, diversity and equality are central to its curriculum, with a focus on creating a broad and balanced view of the world.
