Families across Croydon found out the news about which secondary school their child will attend in September this week.
Yesterday (March 2) marks National Secondary Offer Day, and Department for Education statistics reveal how pupils across Croydon’s secondary schools performed in their latest GCSE results.
The figures highlight Attainment 8 scores, which reflect the average performance of students across eight key GCSE subjects.
These include English, maths, three EBacc subjects (such as science, geography, history or languages), and three additional approved qualifications.
Because of their central importance, English and maths count twice in the calculation.
Below is a breakdown of Croydon’s secondary schools, showing their Attainment 8 scores alongside the proportion of pupils who achieved Grade 5 or higher in English and maths.
The list excludes special schools and independent schools.
It’s worth noting that a school’s Attainment 8 score or percentage pass rate doesn’t necessarily represent its overall quality.
Factors such as selective entry, intake characteristics, and cohort size can significantly influence outcomes.
Across London more widely, 94.3 per cent of children starting secondary school this September received an offer from one of their preferred schools, according to the Pan-London Admissions Board.
More than 70 per cent were offered their first choice, and 89.6 per cent received a place at one of their top three.
In total, London received 86,057 secondary school applications, a 1.6 per cent drop compared with last year, reflecting the capital’s continuing fall in birth rates.
London Councils forecasts a further 3.8 per cent reduction in Year 7 numbers over the next four years, equating to roughly 3,383 fewer pupils, or around 112 classes.
