A Carshalton Christmas event has been cancelled for the first since starting 13 years ago.
The Carshalton Frost Fair, a beloved winter tradition, has announced a fallow year, pausing its usual line-up of family-friendly entertainment and activities.
This is the first year since it began in 2012 that this has happened.
This is the second event in the area to be cancelled this year after the Round Table Carshalton Fireworks were cancelled last month.
The event, which usually takes place on the first Saturday of December, would have been held on December 6.
The organisers have said the cancellation is because “it takes a huge amount of time and effort to put on in our spare time”.
They added that they felt they need time to “focus on other community projects this year”.
In previous years, the Carshalton Frost Fair had transformed the area around the Carshalton Ponds into a festive wonderland.
Twinkling fairy lights created a magical atmosphere, while live entertainment featured carol singing, choirs, folk and pop bands.
Visitors enjoyed stalls from the Wallington Farmers Market and the Eco-Fair, alongside food and drink including hog roasts, vegetarian options, and warming mulled wine and cider.
Charity stalls such as Carshalton Lavender and Fairtrade Sutton also took part.
Families could explore the Winter Wonderland Trail organised by the Friends of the Ecology Centre, while Honeywood Museum hosted Father Christmas’ Grotto, Christmas magic shows, craft activities, and storytelling.
Live performances inside included traditional clog dancing, community choirs, morris dancing, folk music, and brass band sets.
The fair was a highlight of the festive season, bringing the community together while supporting local charitable and eco-focused initiatives.
It is expected that the Frost Fair will return in 2026.
