A post office in Croydon will close this year and open a new branch in the Whitgift Centre.
The Post Office confirmed this week that its branch on Croydon High Street will close on November 25, before reopening temporarily the following day under franchise partner ZCO Ltd.
Following a period of public consultation and review, the Post Office has made the decision to move the Post Office into TGJones at the Whitgift Centre.
The branch will be known as the Croydon branch and will be run by TGJones themselves.
TGJones are currently finalising refurbishment plans.
The new branch is expected open in March 2026.
The move forms part of the Post Office’s broader strategy to secure long-term sustainability and maintain vital services for communities across the UK.
Operating on a franchise basis has proven successful across much of the Post Office network, and this model will now be applied to the Croydon branch.
The changes in management and location are expected to benefit the local community with longer opening hours and a more accessible site.
The Whitgift Centre has housed the former WHSmith store for over 50 years.
The store continues to operate as a newsagent, selling books, stationery, toys and games, DVDs, and CDs.
TGJones, which separated from WHSmith in June, now runs 464 stores across high streets, shopping centres, and retail parks throughout the UK, and also manages 179 Post Offices.
The Post Office has confirmed that it will continue to provide the same full range of services at its new location.
