A popular pub chain will be closing its Croydon branch in just a matter of weeks for good after 37 years.

The Beefeater at Coombe Lodge has announced that it will be closing permanently on September 2.

The Grade II-listed building was converted into a pub-restaurant in 1988 and has been owned as a Beefeater restaurant ever since.

Earlier this year, Whitbread, the owner of Beefeater, revealed plans to sell 38 of its restaurant-pubs for £38 million.

1,500 jobs are at risk as a consequence.

Notices have been placed all over the restaurant.

The full notice reads: “It’s been a pleasure.

“Coombe Lodge is closing on 2nd September.”
