A woman from Croydon has bagged a whopping £50,000 after winning a major Mecca Bingo game.
The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, is known to be a regular customer at the bingo hall in the Centrale shopping centre in Croydon, where she won the huge jackpot on January 17.
The £50,000 jackpot is triggered when a player matches all the numbers on their ticket and claims ‘house’ within the first 16 numbers being called.
Altex Gibson, who works at the bingo hall and has been calling numbers and announcing winners for 20 years explained how it felt to tell the lucky winner on the night.
He said: “I really love people and Fridays are one of our busiest nights.
“The winner was playing on one of our electronic tablets and when she saw she had a full house she hit the ‘claim button’ - but what she hadn’t realised was that she’d completed her ticket on the 15th call.
“She was really happy with the smaller full house club prize, but when I told her that she’d actually triggered the £50,000 jackpot she was in shock.
“In fact, I think she’s probably still in shock now.
“It’s the third time that I’ve had the honour of telling someone that they’ve won the £50,000 jackpot.
“I may have been here for 20 years, but it still feels good when someone wins that amount of money – we get the champagne out and everyone is shouting and clapping.”
The National Bingo Game is played across the UK and offers players the chance to win Jackpot Prizes of up to £50,000 as well a club prize on every game.
The National Bingo Game is played twice a day, every day, 364 days a year at all Mecca Clubs all over the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.
