A man was arrested and then de-arrested after reports of aggression towards Tesco Express staff members in Epsom.

On May 31, a man was arrested after allegedly attempting to shoplift from the Tesco Express next to Epsom station at 6.05pm.

A man was allegedly verbally and physically aggressive towards staff members.

He was apparently arrested by British Transport Police before being given a notice to leave the area.

Once the notice was issued, the man was de-arrested.

Tesco Express reportedly did not want to investigate the matter further, so the investigation has been closed.

A spokesperson for Surrey Police said: “This incident relates to a man who was trying to take some items of food from the Tesco Express next to Epsom train station around 6.05pm on May 31.

“He was also alleged to have been verbally and physically aggressive towards members of staff.

“It looks like he was arrested by British Transport Police before being given a dispersal notice to leave the area, upon which he was then de-arrested.

“The store did not want to pursue the matter any further and so the investigation has been closed, pending any new information coming to light.”
