Several restaurants, cafes, and pubs in Sutton won awards in 2023 for their food quality and atmosphere.

Awards included the Good Food Awards, The Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards, and the CAMRA Awards.

The Good Food Awards recognises the inside atmosphere of restaurants as well as their food quality.

The Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards recognises excellence in the restaurant and takeaway industry.

The CAMRA Awards searches for pubs that serve quality real ale.

So, we’ve compiled a list of four award-winning eateries in 2023 that you should try in 2024.

LA Cafe

LA Cafe, on 1B High Street, is a coffee shop serving a mix of British and French cuisine.

In November 2023, it was listed in the Good Food Awards for a second year.

The café prides itself on never repeating its daily specials, and has garnered a five-star rating by hundreds of reviewers.

A Google reviewer said that the restaurant was: “Extremely cosy.

“The owner was very accommodating with my request due to surgery.

“The food was delicious and a great combination of flavours.

“I felt exceptional when the chef-owner explained what he was serving definitely coming back with my wife.”

LA Cafe is open between 6:30am and 4pm on weekdays, and 8am to 4pm on Saturdays.

Trinco

Trinco also made an appearance on the Good Food Awards list.

The cafe, at the Times Square Shopping Centre and part of the Our Space, is new to Sutton after it opened as a second branch from the original award-winning café in East Dulwich.

Trinco was named winner of the Best Café Award at the Good Food Awards 2024.

The café prides itself on serving Tami Sri Lankan cuisine using plant-based ingredients, with hot and cold dishes.

One Google reviewer said: “Oru's Trinco isn't just a cafe, it's an experience.

“The food is fresh, flavourful, and authentic.

“The staff is warm and welcoming, and the interior is beautiful.”

The restaurant is open from 8:30am to 4pm on weekdays, 9am to 4pm on Saturdays, and 11am to 4pm on Sundays.

Mohini Balti House

Mohini Balti House is an Indian takeaway on 15A Gordon Road.

Mohini Balti House won the Regional Takeaway of the Year in the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards.

Mohini Balti House in Gordon Road serves Indian cuisine, featuring a variety of dishes including tandoori dishes, Mohini baltis, biryani, classic dishes, thali dishes, and more.

One happy reviewer said: “I have just moved to the area and heard great reviews about Mohini.

“I must say... it was the best curry I’ve had in years!

“Tasty, flavoursome, not oily and great quality.

“Plus, the wet towels was a nice touch.

“Very polite delivery man, as well as great telephone service.

“I’ll be ordering again... soon!”

The restaurant is open every day between 5pm to 10:30pm.

The Hope

The Hope pub on 48 West Street, was named the Greater London Regional Pub of the Year in 2023 in the Campaign for Real Ale Awards.

This was the sixth time in the last twelve years that The Hope have was named as the Greater London Regional Pub of the Year.

One reviewer said: “As far as beer goes, this place cannot be beaten.

“It always has a superb selection of ales and something for everyone, no matter what your taste.

“Its range of snacks is outstanding, and overall the quality of the food gets better every time we eat there.

“Believe me when I say this food is the real deal, all bang on point, flavour and spice level spot on.”

The pub is open from 12pm to 11pm from Mondays to Saturdays, and to 10:30pm on Sundays.
