Italian restaurant Ponte Nuovo on 86-88 High Street is first.

Of a total of 1,567 reviews on TripAdvisor, a staggering 1,290 reviewers rated this cafe as Excellent, with a further 198 rating it as Very Good.

One content customer said: “The pizzas were heaped with vegetables and the flavour in the risotto and spaghetti was beautiful."

Another said: “Very good food, ambiance, and service.

“Will be returning.

“Try the Caprese pizza!”

The restaurant is open on Monday to Saturday from 12pm to 11pm, and Sunday from 12pm to 10:30pm.

2. Basil & Grape

Of the 260 reviews here, 63 have credited the restaurant’s pizzas for its taste.

This restaurant has been said by one TripAdvisor reviewer that they have “the best pizza in Croydon", despite it coming second on the list.

Another reviewer said: “Spontaneously went in on way home for a pizza and pint of Peroni.

“I felt very comfortable going there solo. 

“Pizza was gorgeous, hot (temperature-wise) and super tasty.

One reviewer said: “Before lockdown, it was more of a pizza takeout/delivery joint.

“Now it has blossomed into a little slice of Italy right on my doorstep.

“The menu is extensive with plenty of choices of pizza and pasta.”

The restaurant is open from Wednesday to Saturday from 5:30pm and 10:30pm, and on Sunday from 12:30pm to 9pm.

4. Capone’s Pizza Parlour

This parlour on 179 Selsdon Park Road has 26 out of 44 reviews emphasising the quality of their pizzas.

One happy customer, who clearly loved it, said: “Amazing pizzas!

“Ordered six pizzas and garlic bread.

“Best pizza place in the south.”

Another customer said: “The flavours were awesome, and the size was huge.

“If you want a tasty pizza then this is the only place to order from.”

This place is open from 4:30pm to 10pm on Monday to Thursday, and from 12pm to 11pm on Friday to Sunday.

5. Jummar Pizza and Grill

Fifth on the list is this pizza parlour on 443 Purley Way.

The pizzas in this parlour are cooked in a wood-burning oven and have proved popular with customers.

One satisfied customer said: “This is like an undiscovered gem in the world of pizza.

“Wood-fired oven crisps the base to perfection.

“Thoroughly enjoyed the Americano (good spicy kick from the jalapeños).

“Ideal to fill hungry tummies after swimming and very good value for money.”
