The results of the local election in Croydon have been announced after three days of vote counting.

Labour has lost control of Croydon council following the local 2022 elections with labour winning 34 seats and the conservative party gaining a close 32 seats.

Overall voter turnout was 35% meaning that 97,458 people voted in Croydon’s local elections.

Croydon Council began the count at 6pm on Sunday for ten of the wards and ended around 12.45am.

The count restarted at 1pm yesterday where the remaining 18 awards were announced.

There had been long delays during the Mayoral election that pushed back the local election count and this continued during the local election count.

Recounts occurred with wards Waddon, Crystal Palace, Upper Norwood, Fairfield, New Addington North and New Addington South.

Following many recounts, Croydon was the last council in London to announce its results.

In total there will be 34 Labour councillors, 32 Conservative councillors, two Green councillors, one Liberal Democrat councillor and a vacancy.

At the last Croydon council election in 2018, Labour won 41 out of the 70 seats available whereas the Conservatives took 29 seats.

Conservative Candidate Jason Perry won the borough's historic Mayoral election on Saturday with 38,612 votes, making him the first-ever directly elected Mayor of Croydon.
