By Nigel Davies, Raynes Park

I can’t understand the hostility shown by residents of Beverley Way to having buses run along their slip road and feel they are being rather selfish.

Their objections cannot be connected to noise or vibration, living as they do alongside the busy Kingston-by-pass.

They say the road is too narrow but there are other narrow slip roads on the 265 route that buses and neighbours alike negotiate quite safely including the one on the western side of the by-pass.

As for saying there is little demand for the service, how can they know until new stops are erected and provide better travelling facilities for local residents, including those of Ely Close, Perth Close and Aboyne Drive etc.

I remember a similar fuss and furore a few years ago when it was proposed to run buses along Cannon Hill Lane.

“Nobody wants them” was the cry from many, but every 413 I see running along that road these days has grateful passengers aboard.

It should be remembered that omnibuses are for everyone, and the more stops there are the easier life becomes for many local people.
