Recently, good places to eat in Croydon have been dwindling at the news of many businesses’ serious lack of food hygiene. Many of the restaurants are failing to even meet basic food hygiene standards and have been given a shocking score of zero. Takeaways, butchers, convenience stores and restaurants are among the many businesses that were given a food hygiene rating of zero in 2016.  The score of zero means that the food places are in desperate need of improvement yet many of the businesses’ with this score have a history of a lack of food hygiene.

Restaurants such as New Moon on South Norwood high street and places such as Poundworld have shocked many residents with the news of their food hygiene rating of zero and have caused many to question if the food they ate was safe. Many of the businesses have been caught with out of date food, mice and have not even been storing the food correctly. While other businesses have even had to close the shop down or change their name because of their horrendous food hygiene ratings.

Unfortunately, Croydon has had a bad reputation regarding this issue of bad food hygiene for a while now; with horror stories of rat infested restaurants and Spice land giving 200 people food poisoning to illustrate this. However, this issue does not seem to be improving and many people are struggling to find good takeaways they can trust after seeing images of the filthy conditions. If things do not change soon, many people will suffer the terrible consequences of bad food hygiene such as food poisoning.
