Purley John Fisher secured their London Three South West future with a convincing win in the final games of the season last Saturday, writes Thomas Anstey.
The Old Coulsdon-based club needed victory to be sure of avoiding a double relegation after dropping down from London Two last season, and got just that thanks to a 30-15 win over the league’s second-placed side KCS Old Boys.
Croydon were also involved in a crunch match relegation match but it went the other way for them.
They lost 24-19 to Old Walcountians and finish third bottom of Surrey One, with Walcountians one place below them.
Both teams will now sweat on what sides go up in the play-offs this weekend, which will determine how many teams go down to Surrey Two, but Croydon, regional semi-finalists in the RFU Junior Vase this season, would be unlucky to find themselves relegated.
Already guaranteed promotion from Surrey Three, Streatham-Croydon looked to be on their holidays when they suffered a 23-13 defeat to Old Tonbridgians in their final game – missing the chance for an unbeaten season.
They still go up though and now have back-to-back promotions.
Warlingham lost 24-10 to Charlton Park in London Two South East, with already-relegated Old Midwhitgiftian losing 48-12 to a below strength East Grinstead side.
Chipstead finished on a high as they picked up a win over Old Emmanuel away from home in a 37-15 victory to finish the league in third.
