Grasshoppers crashed to a 25-10 defeat at Weybridge Vandals in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.
All the Gs’ scores came in the third session, as a penalty goal from Gerwyn Hughes was followed by a fine try as centre Matthew Reilly chipped over the Vandals backs for Thomas Orishaguna to dribble through and score. Hughes slotted the conversion.
Gs’ player of the day was new boy and flanker Ollie Grindrod, who put in an aggressive all-round performance. Gs’ 2009-10 league season starts this Saturday at home to Hammersmith & Fulham (3pm).
