Twickenham head coach Clive See is reluctantly throwing in the title towel after losing the London Division Three North West top of the table clash at Old Priorians.

A 39-10 defeat on Saturday saw Twickenham knocked off the summit, and See admitted he could not see the new unbeaten leaders dropping any points in their remaining six games.

However, See was left dumbfounded on how his team lost the vital clash.

He said: “We played so well, we scrummed well and our line-outs were good.

“There was just a spell of 20 minutes in the first half where they ran in four tries, and from then on we were chasing the game.

“They are a good side, but we matched them for most of the game.”

Despite the defeat, in which Olly Rowan and Pat Waddon scored Twickenham’s points, See’s men can still be promoted this weekend as runners-up, should they beat bottom club Haringey Rhinos and other results go their way.

See said: “Promotion is the goal now. There is a slim chance Old Priorians will slip up but I cannot see it happening, they are too good for that.

“We’re 24 points ahead of third place, so one win this weekend could still see us promoted.”
