Molesey Boat Club skipper Andrew Triggs-Hodge has vowed not to throw in the towel after suffering his first World Cup pairs defeat of the season at the weekend.

The 30-year-old and partner Peter Reed finished second behind New Zealander’s Eric Murray and Hamish Bond in Munich on Sunday to pick-up silver in an otherwise disappointing performance overall from Team GB.

GB Rowing performance director David Tanner’s squad picked up a record 11 medals in Spain last time out, but were three short of that total this time - claiming eight fewer golds - as they prepare for the next World Cup regatta in Lucerne next month and the World Championships in August.

Reed admitted they were outclassed but pointed out they had won World Cup silver before going on to win an Olympic title in the past and Triggs-Hodge insisted they would put it right.

“We will listen to our coach Jurgen Grobler our coach and we will continue to work hard,” he added.

Triggs-Hodge’s Molesey clubmate Mohammed Sbihi claimed a bronze in the men’s eight that finished six seconds a drift of winners Germany, while Isleworth’s Jennie Farmer was in the women’s eight that finished fifth.
