Another weekend, another major final, and this weekend Harlequins are the rank outsiders for their Aviva Premiership final against Leicester Tigers at Twickenham, writes John Payne.

The bookies have Quins around 2-1 with Leicester, having once again demonstrated why they are rugby’s equivalent of Manchester United, huge favourites at around 11-4 on.

Quins may have finished top of the Aviva Premiership standings, but logic says that should count for nothing given the way that Leicester ended up just a point behind signaling a remarkable turnaround at Welford Road.

While Quins were notching up a perfect start to their season, Leicester lost five of their first six Premiership games as their squad was decimated by the World Cup.

Since then, their only other defeat came at Exeter during February and the fact is that, when they haven’t been weakened by international call-ups, Leicester have won every game against English opposition this season.

Leicester also have the remarkable experience of having made it through to eight consecutive Premiership finals.

You can understand why, at the age of 29, Quins’ longest-serving player Ugo Monye has expressed frustration at the lack of major honours during his decade with the club, but in reality there haven’t been that many near misses either.

The annual Big Game means Quins are used to playing in front of a sell-out Twickenham crowd and, while history makes those odds of 2-1 look anything but generous, you should dismiss Quins’ chances of being this weekend’s Chelsea at your peril.

• So Didier Drogba has announced he is leaving Chelsea.

Drogba’s stock with the Blues fans could hardly be any higher after his equalising goal and European Cup-winning penalty in Munich on Saturday.

The Champions League was Chelsea’s holy grail and, Drogba’s admission he would have stayed had the Blues not lifted the cup, highlights the fact he doesn’t see the point in hanging around should the champagne fall flat next year.

Saturday’s victory was a glorious one-off. I’m not sure even the most ardent Chelsea fan believes there will be a repeat any time soon.
