Lewis Pinto makes his professional boxing debut next Friday and has some lofty career ambitions.

The 24-year-old from Wallington fights at The Coronet Theatre in Elephant & Castle on a bill that includes Carshalton pair Ricky Boylan and Tony Owen.

Although he will achieve a dream against an as yet unnamed opponent, Pinto sees the fight as the first step to something bigger.

“My dream has always been becoming a professional but it doesn’t stop there," he said, "My goal is to be British champion in two years, European in four and a World champion in five,” he said.

Pinto has already stamped his name in the semi professional circuit fighting in shows all over the UK and boasting a record of 15 fights and 14 wins, 11 of those by knockout.

"I’ve fought in Southampton, Corby, Essex, Watford, Hemel Hempstead, beating all their local lads," he added.

"It was my good friends Tony and Lee Owen that helped me to realise my potential."

It was when competing in the Queensbury Boxing League, run by former English Champion Ross Minter and partner Alan Foley that a following of fans began to grow.

“I wouldn’t be in this position if it wasn’t for Ross and Alan and their matchmaking ability," said Pinto.

"Their Queensbury shows are so well run that it became my springboard to the professionals."

Now trained by professional boxing coach Bernard Foreman and promoted by Mick Helliot the debut show is just days away.

Boylan takes on Ideh Ockuko and Owen fights Asan Yuseinov.
