Morden’s Craig Whyatt cannot wait for his second professional fight next week – even if it means his life is rather hectic right now.

The 22-year-old lightweight, below, takes on Shaun Tibble at the Coronet Theatre in Elephant & Castle next Friday looking to back up his debut win against Robin Deakin in November.

But while he has been busy training in recent weeks, he has had to juggle his preparation with his day job as a qualified electrician – giving him an exhaustive routine.

“I get up, I run, I train, I gym, I work, and then, instead of going home and chilling out, I’ll be out giving out tickets to people or collecting ticket money from people,” he said.

“It is ongoing and it is a lot of work but you don’t get anywhere without hard work.

“It only really pays off when you make it and that is my intention.

“I was up early yesterday, went for a run, then did my day job, then went down the gym.

“It is worth it, as it is want I want to do.”

Whyatt, who trains in Brixton, has been putting in the hard yards in preparation for the fight and is excited to get back into the ring, especially with the backing of a vociferous crowd.

“I am getting very excited, I am buzzing for it,” he said.

“It is just over a week to go and I am really looking forward to it.

“I haven’t got any nerves at the moment, I’m just concentrating on my training.

“I’ve boxed in front of crowds before but that first pro-fight was different because I had 160 people there cheering me on rather than 20.

“Having that crowd can make you a little nervous but I’ll have over 100 people there next week and that gives you a buzz.”

Tickets are available from Whyatt on 07507 179342.
