Charlie Robertson heads into second weekend of the 2012 Ginetta Junior Championship aiming for nothing less than two race victories at Donington Park.

The 15-year-old from Whyteleafe confirmed his title credentials during the season-opener at Brand Hatch two weeks ago when he cruised to victory in the second race.

He could easily have had the double in his HHC Motorsport Ginetta G40 car only for a puncture whilst leading race one to cost him maximum points.

He still finished that weekend third in the Championship and bettered his own lap record for the circuit making him the clear pace-setter.

And now he keen to replicate that performance this weekend at Donington – the venue for his maiden Ginetta Junior podium last year when he took second place in only his third ever car race.

“I’m really looking forward to being back at Donington,” said the Motorsport Association Academy youngster.

“I know we should be going there leading the championship, without the puncture in race one at Brands we would have had two wins already.

“We’re still third in the points though and only a couple behind George Gamble in second place, so it’s still been a good start to the year.”

Several of Robertson’s series rivals benefited from additional seat time during an official test session at Thruxton last Thursday but academic commitments meant the Caterham School pupil was not able attend.

Even so, he is confident he will be at the sharp end when pre-event practice begins tomorrow (Thursday).

“It’s always close racing at Donington,” he said.

“There are a lot of quick drivers at the front in Ginetta Junior but we know we should be capable of fighting for wins again.

“The main thing we need to do is close the gap to Niall Murray at the top of the championship and I’m confident we can do that.”

Qualifying for the race takes place on Saturday at 2.10pm with the first race at 4.55pm and the second at 12.25pm on Sunday – screened live on ITV4.
