Twelve horses have been entered for this tomorrow’s Keith Prowse Hospitality Tingle Creek SteepleChase at Sandown Park.
After a week of heavy rain, going on the chase course is described as soft.
In the absence of Master Minded, this newly sponsored race on paper looks to be a fascinating contest with Irish contender Big Zeb and Master Minded conqueror Well Chief, one of Britain’s most fragile yet talented chasers, heading the betting for this grade one.
Here are the big race contenders for Saturday: Big Zeb has pleased trainer Colm Murphy with his recent work. The eight-year-old lost to Master Minded by a head at the end of last season and may have won but for a blunder at the last.
WELL CHIEF: David Pipe’s 10-year-old beat Master Minded last time out at Cheltenham and would be a popular winner at Sandown. Pipe said: “He seems in good form and he goes on all types of going.”
TWIST MAGIC: Paul Nicholls’ 2007 Tingle Creek winner finished an encouraging third at the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter last month.
FREE WORLD: Nicholls’ second entry, like Kauto Star owned by Clive Smith, second on this card last year.
FORPADYDEPLASTER: Last season’s Arkle winner was runner-up to Herecomesthetruth at Down Royal last month. Tony McCoy is a potential replacement for regular pilot Barry Geraghty, who has the option of riding favourite Big Zeb.
CRACK AWAY JACK: Fourth in last season’s Champion Hurdle and an impressive winner at Sandown last month.
TIDAL BAY: Second to Monet’s Garden in the Old Roan Chase last time out and second, 10 lengths behind Master Minded, last year.
OTHER RUNNERS: Newmill: Former Champion Chase winner. Fix The Rib: Gary Moore’s exciting chaser. Barker: Willie Mullins’ entry was a comprehensive winner over Forpadydeplaster at the Punchestown Festival Petit Robin & Mahogany Blaze.
