Linford Christie to be inducted in to the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games Hall of Fame at a special awards evening Olympic Gold Medallist Linford Christie will be among those inducted into the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games Hall of Fame on Tuesday 15th September in Central London.

The special ceremony – being held at the Room by the River on the Southbank - will celebrate the contribution the London Youth Games have made to the careers of some of London's most successful sportsmen and women.

Linford Christie, who competed at the first ever Games in 1977 for Hammersmith & Fulham, won Olympic 100m Gold Medal in Barcelona and helped the Games celebrate our 500,000th competitor earlier this year. Commenting on the Games, Christie said: “I took part at the first ever London Youth Games and the experience of a competitive multi sport environment really helped me on my way.”

As well as Linford the following athletes will be inducted in recognition of their world-class achievements: · Steve Backley (Athletics) - competed for Bexley before picking up Olympic Medals in successive Games. · Mark Hunter (Rowing) - competed for Havering at the London Youth Games and won Gold at the Olympics in Beijing · Christine Ohuruogu (Athletics) - competed in Netball and Athletics at the Games for Newham has won Olympic and World Championship Gold at 400m · Dervis Konuralp (Swimming) competed for Greenwich in disability swimming has won multiple major championships in visually impaired swimming · Luol Deng (Basketball) competed for Croydon at the London Youth Games before embarking on a successful NBA career where he now captains the Chicago Bulls.
