Belgrave Harriers Dwain Chambers claimed his seventh national 100m title in the sweltering heat of Birmingham Alexander Stadium track on Saturday to book his place in the British team for next month’s IAAF world championships.
The 35-year-old was a comfortable 10.04 seconds winner with Harry Aikines-Aryeetey second in 10.08secs.
“To be able to secure my spot was important,” said Chambers.
“The major pressure is now off and we can just concentrate on keeping fit and healthy for London Games and for Moscow.”
Chambers fellow Belgrave club-mate Greg Cackett finished which he described a disappointing sixth in his first national final: “The turnover was quick but I didn’t have it in my legs unfortunately.
“My start is good but my finishing is the problem at the moment, it’s been the story of my career.
“But I made the senior final which was my goal.”
