Ash United 1 Chessington & Hook United 1

Looking to extend their league run to 10 matches unbeaten, Chessington included Victor Donker to the starting line-up, in order to quell the attacking acumen of the Ash midfielders, much to the bemusement of the travelling supporters...

Chessington lost heavily to Ash twice last season, and it looked that way again as Ash went at the away team straight from kick-off, creating two good chances in the first seven minutes.

But it was Chessington's first attack that brought their goal, after Richard Webber was fouled on the left, Neil Wicks's free-kick was met by DAN BENNETT'S head, the ball powering it's way past the Ash keeper on 12 minutes.

But, while Chessington were still congratulating each other, Ash went down the right wing and crossed at the near post for a header that was not defended, leaving centre-forward MO GREGORY to score the equaliser a minute later.

They might have taken the lead from a corner, with keeper Will Harvey missing the flight of the ball, it fell to the same forward, his shot was stopped on the goal line by Webber.

Donker found himself with space to run at the defence, and shot, only for the keeper to defend for a corner.

From this corner, they attacked from the right again, the tricky midfielder got into the penalty box, Harvey came out to thwart his effort for a corner.

The match deteriated from then and became quite scrappy from both sides, but Bennett drew a foul on the edge of the penalty box. It was ideal for Wicks, but his choice of shot was easy for the keeper.

Ash were quick to get forward and again the winger got in from the right, his crossed flashed across the face of the goal.

With two more efforts from Gregory for Ash going wide, Chessington mounted a final effort before half-time, Bennett's skills got him into the penalty box, but he really should pass before he got tackled.

At half-time, Paul West came on for Aaron Leacock, going into the right back position with Heath into centre-back.

Chessington seemed to take the initiative this half, and Quintyne's through ball found Baptiste Bogle on the left, his cross went across the goal to find Wicks on the right, his effort went back across goal, out for a throw-in!

Donker's ball from the right found Bennett, but he failed to react quickly enough, and the keeper cleared.

Ash attacked on the right again, Webber defended well, and was fouled badly by the forward.

The Ash number eight almost scored when a free-kick on the left found him lurking at the far post, but his chance hit the upright and bounced away.

Leroy Brownford came on for Bogle, then, as Webber tackled and won the ball on the edge of the penalty box, he was crudely fouled again by the Ash substitute.

Chessington then got lucky when Ash's number eight headed wide with just the goal at his mercy from another free-kick!

Phil Page came on for Donker on 75 minutes, and Bennett again went solo when he could have passed to players either side of him.

The Ash number eight had a shot shot turned out for a corner before the stocky substitute number 14 had a shot that was deflected by Harvey, then got himself booked with one foul too many.

Time was running out but Chessington almost got the winner from West's cross, Bennett's header beats the keeper, only to be knocked off the goal line in the last minute.

Not a great performance by either side, but Chessington maintain their unbeaten run as they take on Banstead Athletic at Chalky Lane on Saturday (3pm).
