Mick Sullivan and his Leatherhead team need Lady Luck to start doing them some favours if they are to get off the mark in the Ryman Premier League.

After two games, the Tanners find themselves with two defeats and no points on their return to the top tier of the Ryman leagues for the first time in 28 years.

In both Saturday’s game at Billericay Town and Tuesday’s match with Tooting & Mitcham, Leatherhead were in front but went on to lose 2-1 and 4-2.

New signing Danny Gainsford put them ahead against Billericay but then goalkeeper Chico Ramos was caught outside his box and Billericay equalised, before winning it in the second half.

Against Tooting, they again led when Osa Obamwonyi turned Greg Andrews’ free-kick into his own net and then had a penalty appeal turned down before Mark Simmons was sent off for bringing down Reece Hall when through on goal.

Tooting scored the resulting penalty and then ran away with the match, despite Andrews adding a consolation from the penalty spot.

“We have had a bit of bad luck,” said manager Sullivan.

“In both games we’ve gone 1-0 up and against Tooting we were comfortable and fully deserved the lead.

“We started the second half in similar fashion but then had a good penalty appeal turned down and Tooting won themselves a penalty, which we thought was outside the box, and Mark was sent-off.”

Sullivan could add to his side before Leatherhead host Cray Wanderers at Fetcham Grove on Saturday.

“I do think there’s some bolstering that needs to be done,” he said.

“But we are not far from the finished article.”
