Hampton’s game at Weston-super-Mare last night was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at 7pm, leaving the players and supporters who had made the long trip to Somerset with no option but to turn round and head straight home.
Although Weston had expressed no concern at the pitch during the day, a spell of rain from 4-6.45pm had rendered a small area of the pitch waterlogged.
The match referee felt that this area was of concern to player’s safety and duly postponed the game.
The players' coach had left Beveree at 2.30pm, returning at 9.30pm, with only an hour’s wait at Weston’s ground and 20 minutes sampling the finest offerings Leigh Delamere service station had to offer to show for the 270-mile, seven-hour round trip.
This Saturday, the Beavers face another long trip with a visit to Dorchester Town, although Dorchester also suffered a postponement last night.
A coach is booked to depart Beveree at 10.15am. Meanwhile, the reserves entertain AFC Hayes at the Beveree (2pm).
