Charlie Moone is back home and he could not be happier.

The Hampton & Richmond Borough striker returned to the Beveree last week, after a stint at Boreham Wood at the end of last season.

After making 10 appearances in Essex, scoring a single goal, Moone realised that his work severely restricted his commitment to the club, and he made the split.

The 24-year-old, who banged in 24 goals for the Beavers last season under Mark Harper, got in touch with Paul Barry and Darren Powell with a view to re-signing, and the management duo had no hesitation in bringing him back.

Moone said: “I love this club and I think one of the reasons I have been successful here with the goals is that I am comfortable here.

“Although Mark has gone since I’ve been away, I know Paul and Darren very well and a lot of the old players are still here, so very little has changed.

“Everyone knows about the hard work that goes on behind the scenes of a non-league side, and the guys at Hampton are no different, and they are great.”

One thing that has changed is the football philosophy, and Moone is excited about playing in a more attacking formation – and having scored two in two friendlies, it is no surprise.

He said Barry and Powell brought a fresh approach to the game, something the club needed.

“We’re moving from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3, which gives us more of an attacking edge than before,” Moone said.

“It seems to be the popular formation in the Premier League and it has worked with us.

“Progression as a side is key, but I hope I can get the goals that have us pushing for the play-offs at least.”

The Beavers’ friendly with a Crystal Palace XI has been brought forward to August 5 with a 7.45pm kick-off.
