New AFC Wimbledon striker Chris Sullivan has vowed to hit the goal trail when he returns from his enforced lay-off.

Sullivan, signed from Braintree Town last month, has recently undergone shoulder surgery to correct a long-standing issue, which is set to sideline him for six weeks.

And the 20-year-old admitted the lack of action was testing his patience.

Sullivan said: "I'm young and I want to be playing all the time so it is very frustrating.

"I'm about six weeks off from doing contact stuff.

"I've had the problem since I was 16 - it just kept dislocating.

"So it was something that had to be done, and as long as I get it right it is a long season and I have plenty of time to get back."

The livewire frontman grabbed nine goals last season as he switched between playing on the wing and as an out-and-out striker.

And he is confident he has the skills to succeed at Kingsmeadow.

He added: "I feel I'm a striker but I can play on the wing which obviously helps managers.

"I bring pace, power, I'm quite direct and I can score goals.

"I do set myself targets but they are more targets regarding playing well rather than goal tallies."

Sullivan revealed it was his friendship with Dons skipper Jason Goodliffe that ignited the move, with the defender recommending Sullivan to AFC boss Terry Brown.

And the striker is itching to strut his stuff for the Dons fans.

Sullivan explained: "I'm very excited to be playing for such a well-supported club.

"I had a good season last year, but this is a new club now and I'm really looking forward to hopefully moving up through the leagues with Wimbledon."
