Wimbledon rower Sophie Hosking made a golden return to form for Team GB on Sunday as she and partner Hester Goodsell won the women’s lightweight double sculls at the Munich World Cup regatta on Sunday.

The duo, World Cup champions in 2009, had lost out to the USA team last time out in Slovenia, but roared back to win one of five golds claimed by the Brits at the weekend.

And Hosking, a former Kingston Grammar School student, admitted that defeat in Bled had forced a re-think that paid immediate dividends.

“The last regatta where we lost to the USA really focussed our mind in training,” she said.

“We knew the work we had to do to make up ground. We wanted to seek out a really good race for ourselves.”

Britain’s second string crew featuring Putney’s Stephanie Cullen finished in fourth.

Molesey Boat Club skipper Andy Triggs-Hodge was again frustrated as the men’s pair lost out again to New Zealanders Eric Murray and Hamish Bond - but only by 0.8 seconds.

And the Beijing Olympic coxless fours champion insisted progress was being made with the World Championships looming on the horizon.

“I was disappointed with Bled, but here I feel we’ve got back up to where we should be,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to the rest of the year and particularly to November and the World Championships, when we need to be at our best.”

Molesey trio Greg Searle, Moe Sbihi and James Foad settled for bronze in the mens eight as Team GB finished with an 11 medal haul.

“It was disappointing that we weren't quicker, but our regular boat speed was just too slow,” added Searle.

“When we tried to push on it just didn't happen. I'm happy to get a medal, but we've got a lot of work to do.”
