Hertfordshire police have confirmed they will take no further action against a fan who attacked a Kingstonian footballer during their 2-0 Ryman League Premier Division play-off final defeat at Boreham Wood.

Ks skipper Francis Duku appeared to be punched by a supporter who had invaded the pitch following a second-half goalmouth melee, with the scores level at 0-0.

The man slipped past watching stewards to confront the 31-year-old centre-back before returning to the terracing, only to be escorted from the ground by police.

The Kingsmeadow club have complained to the Football Association in the hope of forcing the game to be replayed, claiming the team’s performance was affected by the shocking incident.

The FA are investigating with a decision expected next week on whether Boreham Wood will face charges over the events, however, officers at Hertfordshire Constabulary will not be pursuing the case.

“Following a brief altercation on the pitch involving a player and a supporter, officers who were policing the match identified the person concerned,” said a police statement issued this week.

“Full details were taken from him and he was ejected from the ground to prevent any further incident. Following the incident the match resumed with no further issues and the crowd were able to enjoy the rest of the game.

“As no report of an assault has been made by any parties involved, police have not taken the matter further.”
