Crystal Palace should only finish twelfth in the Championship this season, according to their own manager.

Despite some bookies giving the Eagles odds of 10/1 to win the Championship, making them fifth favourites behind Birmingham, QPR, Reading and Derby, Warnock has told fans they should not go risking their money on seeing an Eagles promotion.

Warnock said: “I wouldn’t say to our fans put money on it at the odds the bookies give you.

“I would say looking at the table we should finish probably twelfth.

“When you look at the money that’s thrown around at the top, the teams coming down and then there’s the teams like Sheffield United, whose reserves should finish in the top half.

“You’ve got Charlton, Wolves, QPR and Ipswich throwing money left right and centre.”

Warnock did however admit he loves the challenge of coming up against the big spenders and is hoping to cause some upsets.

“You’ve got to put things in perspective really but that’s the challenge for myself and the players, we want to beat teams like that, we want to finish above teams who have a lot more than we’ve got.

“You challenge yourself to get where you want to be.

“Birmingham, Derby, Reading are under pressure, Charlton and Sheffield United have got to go back up this year the money they’ve spent and are spending, so it’s a must.

“Wolves are an absolute must, as are Ipswich and QPR, probably the biggest money spenders of all.

“There’s so much pressure so in a way although we are in there I don’t see the pressure of that. I think we can just be ourselves, even probably bring one or two other youngsters into the squad.”
