Sutton United are still to score their first goal of the season - but it wasn't for the want of trying in tonight's stalemate with St Albans City.
In tricky conditions caused by a heavy downpour throughout the night, United looked the better side for most of the night.
Warren McBean, who missed the first half after being delayed in traffic on Saturday, played a full 90 minutes at Gander Green Lane and provided United's main goal threat with his pace and trickery.
He looked to have unlocked the key when he broke clear midway through the second half when his low shot beat City keeper Nick Eyre, but it also went agonisingly beyond the far post.
United played the better football with Paul Honey and Nicky Greene pulling the strings in midfield, but especially in the first half allowed a few shooting opportunities to pass.
St Albans provided a few scares, particularly from set pieces in the second half, but defeat would have been harsh on United.
Referee Adrian Gillett frustrated fans by failing to take the conditions into account in a whistle-happy performance - and failing to play any stoppage time in either half despite a succession of stoppages and injuries.
Sutton: Wilson, Hudson, Bray, Scarborough, Charles, Green, Montague, Honey, McBean, Watkins, Tanner.
United are at home to Bromley on Saturday.
