Rory McMahon, running for Lancaster & Morecambe, won the 110th running of the Wimbledon Common 5km parkrun in treacherous conditions on Saturday morning, writes Charles Lawrie.

McMahon clocked 18 minutes 39 seconds to win for the first time at his fourth attempt ahead of unattached runners Darren Meredith (18:51) and Sean Mackenzie (18:58).

Serpentine’s Amy Balchin (22:06) was women’s winner for the second time ahead of Thames Hare & Hounds’ over-50 veteran Anna Garnier (22:27) and unattached runner Becky Higgs (23:50).

Even though some parts of the course would not have looked out of place in Dancing on Ice, six runners including sixth-placed Tim Slater set personal bests, and all 74 starters completed the race.
