Craig Ross has admited the advances of Blue Square Premier side Cambridge United were too good to turn down.
Ross left Hampton and Richmond Borough this after signing a 12-month contract to step in to the full-time ranks.
The 22-year-old goalkeeper, who has also turned out for Carshalton Athletic, joined the Beavers in 2011 after their regular number one Matt Lovett broke his leg.
He became a fans’ favourite, making 38 appearances, but he could not prevent their relegation from the Ryman Premier League nor could he prevent a 4-0 friendly defeat to QPR on Saturday in his
final appearance for the club.
Ross said: “I was gearing up to start the season with Hampton but the opportunity of being at a club like Cambridge is something I couldn’t turn down.”
Beavers manager Mark Harper said: “We have options in goal.
“Rodney Chiwesh has been training with us and we will be using him, but we also have two other goalkeepers training with us.”
Former Brentford striker DJ Campbell got back to his non-league roots as he starred for QPR at Hampton on Saturday.
The former Yeading frontman scored two in a 4-0 romp for Rangers.
