Harlequins pair Danny Care and Tom Williams completed their road to redemption with the Aviva Premiership title on Saturday, before director of rugby Conor O’Shea insisted there was more to come from them both.

Scrum half Care endured a difficult season away from the pitch, with three drink related incidents landing him in hot water with club, country and the law.

While Williams found himself in the middle of the Bloodgate scandal that engulfed Harlequins, having chewed on a blood capsule to allow Quins to get a specialist kicker on the pitch in their Heineken Cup quarter-final against Leinster.

Both players played starring roles in the 30-23 win over Leicester at Twickenham, with Care out-shining England rival Ben Youngs and wing Williams scoring the first try of the game in his 100th Premiership appearance.

And director of rugby Conor O’Shea admitted the pair were reaching the zenith of their ability.

“Danny Care was incredible on Saturday, he was buzzing around and creating gaps,” he said. “He is the first to admit he made mistakes, he has a lot to cope with and is a young lad. We want to grow as people at the club, but young men are going to make mistakes and, as long as you have people like Chris Robshaw and a whole group of players willing to support each other to make them better and help them, we will get there.

“You are going to see a more mature and better Danny Care in the years to come – he is only 25 and he has learned some hard lessons.

“You could not come across a nicer bloke, he made mistakes, but there is not a bad bone in that guy’s body and, hopefully, he is going to repay the faith people in the England set up and at Harlequins have shown.

“Three years ago, there were a lot of people who went through a lot of tough times within the club, including Tom.

“But I felt his kick chase against Toulouse earlier in the season marked him back to where Tom Williams was.

“He is a talented guy and I look at people like him and Ugo Monye and Mike Brown at the back, and it means so much to them to have spent so much time together and that is why they go that extra mile.

“We are going places and Tom has contributed massively to the development of the youngsters behind the scenes and I’m really happy for him.”
