Curtis Osano is already looking at League One football in 2013 after becoming AFC Wimbledon’s first signing of the summer on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old joined on a free transfer from Luton Town and will replace the departed Sam Hatton at right back.

It will be his first experience of the Football League having spent four years at Rushden & Diamonds, following his release from Reading’s academy, before joining Luton – but that does not mean he wants to stop his climb up the Football ladder there.

“From where Wimbledon were to where they are now it has not taken them long at all,” he said.

“They have come up from the lower divisions through the Conference and into League Two and, hopefully, next season it can be League One.

“They started off well in League Two last year so we know they can do it.

“League football was what attracted me to the club first and foremost.

“After leaving Reading I have been playing in the Conference and have never had a League game under my belt, so, when this opportunity came around, I grabbed it with both hands.

“I believe I am ready for the step up and, hopefully, I will play a big part at Wimbledon.”

The quick decision on his future marks a complete contrast to last summer for Osano, who worked with Dons manager Terry Brown in 2006 at Aldershot, when he joined on loan from Reading.

Having left Rushden, he was in limbo until being snapped up by Luton just before the start of the season.

“It is pleasing to get done early as that was my aim – I wanted my future sorted as soon as possible,” he added.

“Last summer, I worked non-stop just to make ends meet so I didn’t want that again and have got it sorted, which is hopefully the right decision.”
