Brentford look set to bring in a player on loan after letting winger Alex Rhodes go to Swindon for a month and cancelling the non-contract registration of midfielder Jamie England by mutual consent.

Manager Leroy Rosenior is desperate to end a run of eight games without a win - either at Rotherham in League One on Saturday or at Northampton in the Johnstone Paints Trophy on Tuesday.

He told the Guardian: "Alex has been in and out with injuries and needs games to find his best form.

"His departure will reduce the budget and give me some money to get someone in on loan if necessary."

Rosenior needs a midfielder after finding that 18-year-old England, who was released by former Bees boss Martin Allen from MK Dons, was not a suitable replacement for Simon Cox, now back at Reading after breaking his leg.

The Bees boss is desperate for Brentford to get back to winning ways before his two-match touchline ban - a legacy of his sending-off at Luton in the Carling Cup last month - kicks in on Monday, October 23, consigning him to the stands for matches against Oldham and Nottingham Forest.

Rosenior, who was also fined £500, said: "I'll have to take it on the chin.

"It won't be too much of a disadvantage because my coach Paul Mortimer knows what is required."

Chris Moore, Sam Tillen and Ryan Peters are in line to replace Rhodes at Rotherham, while recent signing Karle Carder-Andrews is also hoping to figure in the first team after impressing in a 1-1 friendly draw at Hampton & Richmond on Monday.

The biggest boost for the Bees was the return from injury of Oli Skulason and Andy Frampton in Saturday's 1-1 draw with high-flying Bristol City at Griffin Park.

They added experience and quality, while Adam Griffiths and Matt Heywood, playing against his old club, were dominant in defence.

Rosenior said: "The lads gave a positive reaction following the home defeat by Yeovil.

"When we came under pressure in recent games we floundered, but having people like Frampton and Skulason really helps."

The Bees went behind on the stroke of half-time when Jamie McAllister's cross was steered past Stuart Nelson by Jamie McCombe.

But they drew level after 68 minutes after Clyde Wijnhard won a penalty and skipper Kevin O'Connor scored from the spot.

Jo Kuffour missed a late chance to snatch all three points.

Brentford: Nelson; O'Connor, Heywood, Griffiths, Frampton; Brooker (Peters, 81mins), Skulason, Pinault, Rhodes (Tillen, 56); Kuffour, Wijnhard (Moore, 89). Subs not used: Masters, Mousinho. Att: 6740.

Hampton agreed to stage a friendly at short notice so the Bees could give a game to several fringe players, including midfielder Carder-Andrews and youth team left-back James Maberley.

The visitors snatched the lead through Gavin Tomlin, but Glen Harris grabbed an 82nd-minute equaliser for Brentford.

Brentford: Masters; Mousinho, Maberley, England, Osbourne, Charles, Peters, Carder-Andrews, Tomlin, Moore, Tillen. Subs: Howes, Dark, Dimitriou, Bernard, Fitzgerald, Montague, Brown.

Brentford have agreed to pay more than £600,000 to construct a roof over the open Ealing Road end of Griffin Park. Most of the cost is coming from a Football Stadium Improvement Fund grant.
