Great Britain international Frank Tickner set a new course record in winning Dulwich Runners’ midsummer 5km race.

Running for Wells City Harriers, Tickner clocked 15 minutes, 10 seconds, to take 14 seconds off the old mark.

James Trapmore, of Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers (16.07) was second, with Nick Beresford, of North Hertfordshire Roadrunners, third (16:31) out of 350 runners.

Jane Bradshaw, of Blackheath & Bromley Harriers, was first woman (18.45) ahead of Herne Hill Harriers’ Karen Ellison and Beckenham’s Anita Jones Both men’s and women’s team prizes were won by Beckenham.

Children and parents from Herne Hill School turned out in force to support the race and their participation helped to raise £800 for the Khanya School in the townships of Cape Town, South Africa.

Forty Herne Hill School pupils were among more than 250 to take part in a one-mile run run. James Elms was boys’ winner with Catriona McSorley the first girl.

Dulwich Runners also organise a 10km race to be held in Dulwich Park in aid of a local charity on Sunday, October 3.
