Glenn Poole may find his position in the AFC Wimbledon line-up under threat after the return to fitness of Luke Moore, but you will not hear the midfielder complaining.

Poole was hauled off on the hour mark in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Altrincham at Kingsmeadow and replaced by Moore, making his first Blue Square Premier appearance since his hip surgery in December.

But the 29-year-old insists he is more than happy to welcome the competition.

Poole said: “Competition for places is what football is all about and it keeps you on your toes.

“If you know you are going to be playing week in, week out then your standards are likely to drop.

“The thing is with this squad is that there are a lot of players who are capable of playing more than one position, and the boss keeps moving things around.

“I think that is a great way of doing things as you know as a player that if you are not performing there is someone else who can come in and do your job.

“The difference with Wimbledon is there is absolutely no resentment among the players.

“There are no players sulking if they are not in the team - everyone supports each other and just wants the team to do well.

“Everyone is in this together and that is driving the team forward.”

Poole suffered mild concussion in the clash with Altrincham, where the Dons rescued a point thanks to Ben Judge’s equaliser, and the former Brentford man was hoping to be back in action when Wimbledon travelled to Crawley on Tuesday night.

Up this weekend is a home clash with struggling Eastbourne Borough - a game Poole admits the Dons simply have to win.

He added: “If you look at our remaining games we still have to play Eastbourne, Barrow and Grays Athletic at home who are all near the bottom and we have to take maximum points from those.

“But to use a cliche every game is becoming a must-win game.

“We still have to play teams near the top of the table and obviously picking up points in those games really helps our cause.

“It is very tight and three points can make a big difference but I think the key for us is to try and get something from every game and if we do that we have a good chance of a top-five finish.”
